Crochet Dainty Daisy and Heart Hair Clips – Easy Beginner Projects

Today, I have two adorable mini projects for you: a Dainty Daisy Snap Clip and a Green Crochet Heart Hair Clip. These are perfect for beginners and even kids who are just starting with crochet. They’re small, quick to make, and can be used as cute accessories, gifts, or even for craft sales. If you love tiny crochet pieces, these projects are a must-try.

Crochet isn’t just about making blankets or big projects—it’s also about creating fun, creative, and practical accessories. Small projects like these help you practice basic stitches such as chain stitches, single crochet, double crochet, increases, and slip stitches. Plus, they give you instant satisfaction because you can finish a piece in a short time. If you’ve tried any of my previous tutorials, like how to crochet a heart or crochet twisted headband, you’ll find these new mini clips just as enjoyable.

The best part about these projects is how versatile and personalized they can be. You can make these clips in your favorite colors, match them with outfits, or even create a set of multiple clips for gifts. Today, I’ll walk you through each step clearly, so even if it’s your first time crocheting, you can follow along and make your own beautiful handmade hair accessories.

Materials You Will Need

Before we start, gather the following materials:

  • 5-ply cotton yarn (white, grey, green, or your favorite colors)
  • Crochet hooks (2.5 mm – 3 mm)
  • Stitch markers
  • Yarn needle
  • Scissors
  • Snap hair clips
  • Small piece of felt
  • Fabric or hot glue

These materials are easy to find, and they are perfect for beginners. Cotton yarn works great for small accessories because it holds its shape well.

Project 1: Dainty Daisy Snap Clip

The first project is a cute daisy snap clip. It’s small, quick, and a perfect way to practice single crochet, double crochet, half double crochet, and increases.

Step 1: Make the Foundation Chain

  1. Using white yarn, make 10 chain stitches.
  2. Place stitch markers:
    • Marker 1: Right loop of the 2nd chain from the hook
    • Marker 2: Left loop of the last chain

These markers help you track the stitches as you work around the chain.

Round 1

  1. Chain 1 (this turning chain does not count as a stitch).
  2. In the loop with Marker 3, work 1 single crochet, then 3 single crochets in the same stitch.
  3. Move to the loop with Marker 1 and crochet 8 single crochets, then make 1 single crochet increase in the next stitch.
  4. Finish the round with a slip stitch into the first single crochet at Marker 3.

Round 2

  1. Chain 1 (does not count as a stitch).
  2. Start in the same stitch as the slip stitch and work 1 single crochet increase.
  3. Place Marker 4 in this first stitch.
  4. Work 8 single crochet stitches, then 3 single crochet increases, followed by 8 single crochet stitches and 2 single crochet increases.
  5. Finish the round with a slip stitch into the first single crochet at Marker 4.

Round 3

  1. Chain 1 (does not count).
  2. Start in the same stitch as the slip stitch and make 1 single crochet. Place Marker 5.
  3. Work 1 single crochet increase, then 8 single crochets.
  4. Repeat the sequence of 1 single crochet followed by 1 single crochet increase three times.
  5. Work 8 single crochets, then repeat 1 single crochet increase two times.
  6. Finish with a slip stitch into Marker 5.

Round 4: Decorative Edge

  1. Change color to grey yarn.
  2. Chain 1 (does not count).
  3. Start in the same stitch as the slip stitch and make 1 single crochet, placing Marker 6.
  4. Work 1 single crochet increase and 3 single crochets.
  5. Repeat 1 half double crochet increase followed by 1 slip stitch 10 times to create a curved edge.
  6. Finish with 1 half double crochet increase, 2 single crochets, then repeat 1 single crochet increase + 1 single crochet twice.
  7. End with a slip stitch into Marker 6.

Finishing the Dainty Daisy Clip

  1. Cut the yarn and leave a small tail.
  2. Weave in all loose ends with a yarn needle.
  3. Wrap a small piece of felt around the snap clip.
  4. Apply a little glue to the felt and press the crochet piece firmly onto the underside of the clip.
  5. Your Dainty Daisy Snap Clip is complete! 🌼

Project 2: Green Crochet Heart Hair Clip

The second project is a green crochet heart hair clip. This project is also small, beginner-friendly, and can be attached to a hair clip for a cute accessory.

Step 1: Create the Magic Ring

  1. Using green yarn, make a magic ring.
  2. Chain 1 to start.

Round 1: Crochet the Heart Shape

Work all stitches into the center of the magic ring:

  • 3 chain stitches
  • 3 treble crochet stitches
  • 1 treble crochet stitch
  • 3 double crochet stitches
  • 3 treble crochet stitches
  • 3 chain stitches

Finish the round with a slip stitch into the ring. Pull the yarn tight to close the center hole.

Use a yarn needle to weave the ends through the back of the stitches for a clean finish.

Step 2: Decorative Edge

  1. With silver yarn, work a round of slip stitches around the entire outer edge of the heart.
  2. This creates a polished border and makes the heart look neat and finished.

Step 3: Assemble the Hair Clip

  1. Take a metal hair clip and wrap a small piece of felt around it for better adhesion.
  2. Apply a small amount of glue to the back of the heart and press it firmly onto the end of the clip.
  3. Let the glue dry completely.

Your green heart hair clip is now ready to wear!

Creative Ideas

Once you’ve mastered these small projects, you can try:

  • Making a set of daisy clips in different colors
  • Creating hearts in red, pink, or pastel shades
  • Adding tiny crochet flowers or stars to hairbands
  • Using these shapes as earrings, brooches, or bag charms

These little accessories are great for gifts, kids’ hair, or selling handmade items.
